Industries Served

Where heavy metals meet water.

Anywhere process water carries heavy metals, oils, or fine suspended solids that won't settle on their own — our treatment chemistry and equipment apply. Below: industries we've worked in directly, plus adjacent industries where the technology fits.

Proven Applications

Direct experience.

Industries where we have documented treatability work, field installations, or both — with independent lab analysis confirming results.

01 · Surface Finishing

Electroplating

Nickel, chromate, hard chrome, zinc, and decorative plating. Rinse water, spent solutions, and tank floor sumps. Treatable for recycling back to rinse tanks (zero discharge) or compliant municipal discharge.

02 · Heavy Plating

Hard Chrome

Stripper tank waste, floor sumps, and rinse water from chromium-intensive operations. Cr⁶⁺ reduction to Cr³⁺ followed by E-Cell or KB-1 treatment. Documented in IME Labs certificates.

03 · Vehicle Service

Radiator Repair

Wash water and test tank water with copper, lead, zinc, and phosphate loading. Treatment system sized for typical radiator shop flow rates with onsite sludge management.

04 · Energy

Oil & Gas

SAGD heavy-oil process water, produced water, boiler blow-down, and oily wastewater. Demonstrated reduction of barium, strontium, and extractable petroleum hydrocarbons on Northern Alberta heavy oil.

05 · Resource Extraction

Mining

Mine drainage, tailings water, and process streams with heavy metals or radionuclides. SME chemistry also applies to soil and sediment remediation; metals can be recovered for resale where concentrations warrant.

06 · Site Water

Construction

Glacial-till silty water from gravel washing, site dewatering, and excavation. E-Cell treatment turns opaque silty water clear in three minutes — documented on Western Canadian sites.

07 · Process Water

Food Processing

Plant effluent with high bacterial load. Caro Labs documented 100% reduction of total plant APC (118 million cfu/g raw) and coliform (65 million cfu/g raw) plus elimination of salmonella, in a single-pass treatment.

08 · Metal Fabrication

Sheet Metal

Floor sumps, parts wash, caustic tanks, and acid baths from sheet metal operations. Mixed metal contamination handled in the same treatment system.

09 · Site Runoff

Stormwater

Construction site runoff, industrial yard drainage, and dredge water with turbidity and heavy metals. Batch system tested by City of Redmond, WA at 100–150 gpm effective treatment rate.

10 · Agricultural Waste

Dairy & Digester Sludge

Digester cow manure sludge handled by E-Cell pumping with low air injection — treated sludge separates from clean water in approximately 30 seconds. Documented at Dean Adams Pilot Plant.

Adjacent Applications

Where it also fits.

Industries where the treatment chemistry should apply based on the contaminant profile, though without the direct case-study history we have for the categories above. Worth a treatability study if you're working in one of these areas.

A · Aerospace

Aircraft Maintenance

Hex chrome, cadmium plating, hydraulic fluid contamination, parts wash. Same contaminant profile as our hard chrome and electroplating work, at typically larger volumes.

B · Vehicle Wash

Commercial Car & Truck Wash

Brake dust (copper, lead, zinc), road grime, oils and surfactants. Treatable for compliance with municipal discharge limits and water recycling to reduce per-vehicle water cost.

C · Marine

Shipyard & Marine Service

Antifouling-paint copper, hull blasting residue, bilge water. Where stormwater drains to harbor, treatment of yard runoff is increasingly required.

D · Specialty Chemistry

Tannery & Leather Processing

Chromium tanning waste, sulphides, and high organic load. The chromium chemistry is directly analogous to our plating-shop work.

E · Print & Pigment

Printing & Ink Manufacturing

Heavy metals in pigments, dyes, solvent washes. Common contaminants include lead, cadmium, chromium — well-suited to SME encapsulation.

F · Site Remediation

Landfill Leachate

Variable leachate composition typically benefits from a combined approach — E-Cell for bulk reduction, SME chemistry for stabilizing heavy metal fractions before disposal.

If your application isn't listed but you're dealing with heavy-metal contaminated water, get in touch — we'll tell you whether it's a fit before you commit to anything.

Your Application

Don't see your industry?

The technologies are broadly applicable. Describe your waste stream — volume, source, what's in it — and we'll give you an honest answer on whether it's a fit.
